Halloweeeeeen

2 11 2009

IMG_6180003This weekend was a lot of fun, perfect crisp & sunny fall days. Friday at the new clinic was a blast- everyone dressed up and the atmosphere was filled with energy! I think just seeing doctors try to adjust with boxing gloves or a Scooby Doo outfit was medicine enough for our patients. Later that night I went to a girlfriend’s house in Kirkland for a private party where I ended up on the balconey with a past mma guy practicing sparring drills.

IMG_6217IMG_6191I slept through training the next morning, a much needed break from my week, then worked out at the gym and started getting ready for the second round of Halloween parties. I met up with 2 great friends Will & Ronda (prince charming & snow white) and we went to the first Fremont house where I saw the best costume of the night, and then ended the evening meeting up with another group of friends just up the street.

Only had time to put together (borrow) one outfit but I had 3 different wigs to mix it up a little bit. Thanks to everyone who made my weekend Happy or Horrorible (it happened).

IMG_6220But no matter how good Halloween was, Sunday was the best of all- I went and rode bikes at Duthie Hill & the trails & jumps & weather were in perfect condition for all the people who were out for the day. I hit everything on the jump trails for my first time & got to meet more great riders before I rushed back home to pack my belongings into storage and get to an amazing church service with some amazing friends.

The weekdays in passing:

- I bought a blue tooth! I used it twice, and returned it 2 weeks later

- Our 2 massage therapists and I have spent 4 days doing spinal screenings & 15 minute massages in one of the Microsoft buildings where they are designing the new Microsoft retail store- dubbed “the Apple Store on Steroids“. The people have been great to get to know, and the latte cart & lunches pretty darn awesome2009-10-05 21.44.16

- We sent out 500 postcards for the Open House I organized at our clinic October 14, a patient appreciation type of get together- food & beverages, drawings for athletic event tickets, free adjustments & massages

- IMG_6159Spent a lot of time with some of my best friends all over Seattle - 4 days in a row with a close girlfriend & her husband in the hospital, then the week after made up for lost time listening to live music, going to movies, & decorating Christmas trees

- This past Friday I went to meet a good friend from Kelowna at Yamaha to buy a Phazer. Then I had to sign the papers back over to him so he could take it back to Canada  : (2009-10-09 11.11.59

SUNDAY

10 10 2009

Yesterday was an incredible day, I love combining my two passions: chiropractics & bikes. After a tumultuous morning on the phone discussing my future & finding out who John Smith was, I went and rode my stress away at the Colonade for the Transition Demo days. There`s nothing like meeting some of your most favorite people under the freeway to jump bikes, listen to music & barbeque.IMG_6042

After catching up with the guys, I shed my `biker` image & cleaned up for the UFC fights at the Snoqualmie Casino. I think I adjusted about 25 people in 2.5 hours & it was so exciting! The only problem is I start really become fond of a lot of the guys on the table, so watching them get their butts kicked is extremely difficult. And painful. I stuck around until the party started dissipating around 1 and stopped by to wake up Ronda & Will to review the day`s drama in detail.IMG_6020

Then I packed, slept a couple hours, stopped by Starbucks with a friend on the way to the train station, got front row seats, transferred to the Vancouver airport, and now I`m in the air on my way to Grande Prairie! Nothing like spending holidays with your family.

Outdoor fun not on bikes

You can see the salmon on the right

Last weekend was another mix of work & friends. One of the best nights involved musical adjusting- we swear we`re on to something- if you adjust to music of the patient`s liking, they relax more, and as an adjuster you find this innate rhythm that is almost infallible! The next morning Jeff & I went and watched some of his friends race in the cyclocross at Sammamish Park. It was interesting to watch, but something I don`t think I`ll ever do.

After lunch in Issaquah, I drove my bike right into the middle of the Salmon Festival which was so neat! Way too many people but I`ve never seen such huge salmon trying to jump their way upstream. They`re not smart animals but they try hard.IMG_5992

Later in the afternoon I practiced throwing a football in anticipation of my break out season next year, and ended the weekend

The weeks in review

5 10 2009

Again I’m writing for the last couple weeks. I find its better cause then I’m less likely to go into too much detail= more pictures and less writing.

Two weekends ago, I rode bikes at the Colonade for Kat Sweet’s birthday & had a great time with her & her friends jumping & eating delicious cupcakes. I got to get creative with an adjustment I gave to her husband on a park bench around the 9 inch rod & spinal fusion in his back from a snowboarding accident.IMG_5944

Sunday a friend & I loaded my motorbike in the back of his truck & shuttled Glacier in the morning, then drove to downtown Bellingham to watch my friend Kim Dubey cross the finish-line at the Bellingham marathon. It was an awesome thing to see, knowing how much effort she’d put into her training & diet all summer. And just as she broke the ribboon, her boyfriend Caesar went down on one knee & asked her to marry him. The girl was overwhelmed & I was just so happy to surprise her by showing up to witness 2 of the most monumental moments of her life!IMG_5973

Martha Hucker

I’d like to think SSIII was pretty successful this year, I just wish I could add riding bikes and organizing events to my chiropractic resume. Rita Langley from New Zealand is another rider who has created her own blog “Martha Hucker” to cover all female bike riders of every discipline & background. She’s become a staple in bringing relevant news & articles, interviews and podcasts to the rest of the industry and has done a great job in raising awareness to podium placements & different riders around the world.

The Slope Sistair web page is: www.slopesistair.wordpress.com, reminds me I should update it a bit more.

Kat’s birthday at the Colonade

27 09 2009

IMG_5944This morning was awesome- woke up indecently early by a phone call from my dad, but I woke up quickly as he described the 8 foot 500 pound Sturgeon he caught on the coast of BC with my brother Steele. I can’t wait to go next year! All my brothers have had their time to shine but its my turn next year. Then I mailed out a bunch of old & new gear to a guy for his daughters who sound like little rippers on their bikes, then stopped by the clinic & developed some xrays, mailed out another envelope (seems like I accidentally ordered the Spanish edition of “Outliers”).

Then I stopped to work at a coffee shop in Juanita for a bit & met this guy with an ALine t-shirt that used to work at Das Rad Haus in Leavenworth. I rushed home from this conversation to pack & head to the Colonade under I-5 for Kat Sweet’s birthday-the Kitty Kat Jam. I rode and jumped and crashed for about 3 hours straight. And I adjusted the birthday girl’s husband on the park bench (he’s got rods in his spine) & it was awesome. And then I went to the gym, picked up some wine, and am now talking a close friend through a relationship crisis.IMG_5947
